Catfish 

Facebook is a network that is sweeping the nation.  More and more people are signing up and creating their own account. With this, there are more opportunities to meet people through the internet.  People need to be careful of who they are talking to and what they are talking about.  We need to be aware that everyone isn’t always who they say they are.  Catfish is a great movie that shows you the consequences of believing everything you hear. 

 In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film a documentary of the life of Ariel's brother, Nev.  Soon Catfish became an award winning documentary. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. Little did we know, it is a shocking reality thriller that anyone with access to the internet can relate to.  The two main characters are Yaniv Schulman and Angela Pierce. Catfish is a movie about a guy named Nev who is talking to a girl he met through Facebook.   

            Nev lives with his friend Henry and his brother Ariel, who began to film Nev’s life after he began talking to a girl named Megan on Facebook.  They would call each other all the time and text whenever they could.  Nev thought she could be a perfect match for him. Their relationship began through Megan’s little sister Abby. who is amazing at painting.  Nev would always receive pictures that eight year old Abby had painted of photographs he had taken.  They were unbelievable, so naturally Nev really wanted to meet her. Nev would occasionally talk to Megan’s mother Angela as well. Once Nev and Megan had been talking for a while, Nev decided it was time to meet her.  Everything was about to change.    

In this movie, I loved how even though it was a documentary, it was still filmed very well.  When I thought of a documentary, I thought the camera shots would be angled weird and it would be bumpy.  I was wrong.  I felt that it was filmed very well and it showed exactly what he was feeling.  One thing I really like about Catfish was that everything was unexpected. There were twists and turns one after another.  It is a movie that will keep you on your toes.  Most movies I can predict what was going to happen but I couldn’t for this one.  It was very suspenseful and kept you interested throughout the whole movie.  The character that was the most interesting was Angela.  There are many unanswered questions about her character.   I think the idea behind this movie was really interesting because you know things like this happen.  I think it is a great movie to watch because it makes you to think twice about who you talk to on the internet.  It is a valuable movie that I think people should see. 

I definitely recommend this movie to adults and teenagers because it can show you that you can’t trust everyone on the internet.  Just be safe and smart about what you decide to put out on the internet and how much you believe of what other people say.  I wouldn’t recommend this movie to children because I don’t think it would keep their attention as much and they wouldn’t fully understand  themovie’s major concepts. I liked the movie because I always hear about stories like this on the news. However, I never hear anything more about it.  It was interesting to see it from Nev’s perspective.  I like that I was able to see the beginning, the middle and the end of this sketchy situation.  I also really liked the movie because I thought they captured great scenes of how the characters were feeling. Overall, I recommend the movie and I hope it gets you thinking about who you can and can’t trust as well as the information you put out on the web
